Text20 JulCONSUMERS DEMAND SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

A new survey carried out by GlobalData, a data and analytics company, has revealed that consumers increasingly consider sustainable packaging to be a ‘must have’ quality when deciding which products to buy.

The survey – ‘Packaging Insights: Innovation Scenarios in Sustainable Packaging Materials’ – shows that 75% of consumers worldwide now believe that “living an ethical or sustainable lifestyle is important to creating a feeling of wellbeing” and, as a result, are now purchasing products packaged in recyclable materials whenever possible.

Historically, sustainable packaging has been considered as little more than a niche and only of interest to a small minority. However, thanks to an increase in the awareness of environmental issues generally, it has now become a key consideration for the majority of consumers.

Mayu Teeven, Consumer Analyst at GlobalData, said: “This sudden interest in sustainability has been driven by more open discussion via social media, and increased government lobbying.

“Using sustainable packaging to reflect cleaner and healthier living has become a priority for many consumers. As demand for organic and natural products grows, having non-recyclable plastic packaging will start to limit the success of products which rate highly on ethics and sustainability in other parts of the supply chain.”

At TrakRap, we’ve been producing 100% recyclable packaging solutions for many years and know that changing consumers’ attitudes towards an issue such as this is extremely difficult, so it’s incredibly encouraging to learn that most now consider sustainable packaging to be a deal-breaker.
