Proof that more still needs to be done in order to increase recycling rates this week, as British consumers have reported confusion over what can and can’t be recycled, according to the results of a new poll carried out by waste management company, Viridor.
As well as a lack of clarity in relation to what can be recycled, confusion also exists regarding when and where recycling takes place. The poll reports that 43% of respondents are not sure on which days to put their bins out and, of the 1,500 people surveyed, it has also been revealed that there is ‘generally low public trust in local authorities which oversee collection facilities.’
Dan Cooke, director of external affairs at Viridor, said: “People across the UK want to recycle more, and recognise the importance of doing so, but they need better systems and support to ensure the right stuff goes in the right bin every time.”
Whilst recycling rates have increased in recent years, we’re determined to see these figures improve further still, rather than allowing opaque instructions to strip away the public confidence and undo so much hard work. At TrakRap, we aim to leave our customers in no doubt about whether or not our products are recyclable, so our patented TrakRap system uses a specially developed low-density film that is 100% recyclable.
