SWEDISH ENERGY

Remarkable news from Scandinavia this week as Sweden has announced that it is on course to meet its renewable energy targets an incredible nine years ahead of schedule.

Our Nordic neighbour’s current target is 46.4TWh/year by 2030. According to the Swedish Wind Energy Association (SWEA), it had already installed 6,691MW of wind power by the start of 2018 – equivalent to 17.2TWh of its annual energy production. However, when output from other clean energy sources is taken into account, the country is already within a mere 4TWh of its 2030 goal.

And, with an additional 815.5MW of wind power capacity expected to be added before the end of the year, Sweden’s total wind power output would increase to approximately 19.8TWh/year, putting the country on course to reach its 2030 target some time in 2021. It would also enable it to increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix and ensure its citizens have access to an affordable, reliable energy service.

And it’s not stopping there - Sweden has already suggested that it will attempt to double its renewable energy efficiency rates and supply energy to the world’s least developed nations.

Here at TrakRap, we think this is fantastic news and, with reports suggesting that universal demand for energy is set to increase by 37% worldwide over the next 22 years, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
